Sarwat Gilani celebrates Raksha Bandhan with her cook
In an attempt to express inter-faith harmony, actress Sarwat Gilani celebrated Raksha Bandhan with her cook, Ghanaish, on Monday.
Posting videos of the celebration in an Instagram story, Gilani places kumkum on Ghanaish’s forehead and then ties a rakhi around his wrist.
“Minorities living in Pakistan should be made to feel welcomed and loved by every Pakistani,” said the actress in a message posted with pictures of the celebration.
The festival is celebrated by the Hindu community to commemorate the bond between brothers and sisters, according to a report in The Times of India.
The report said Raksha Bandhan is derived from Raksha, a Sanskrit word that means protection and Bandhan which means a bond. The festival signifies the love, protection, loyalty, care and commitment a brother and sister have for each other.
According to the report, the festival observed on August 22.
