Former President Mamnoon Hussain passes
Pakistan's former President Mamnoon Hussain passed away Wednesday according to his son who said his father was battling cancer for the past two weeks and died in a hospital.
The 80-year-old was born in India in 1940 but migrated to Pakistan. A graduate of IBA, he was a loyal member of the Pakistan Muslim League N from the 1970s. He served as acting president of the Sindh chapter of the party and was briefly Governor of Sindh in 1999 but was removed when General Pervez Musharraf took over.
He was chosen by Nawaz Sharif as his candidate for the presidency because, as Dawn reported, Hussain was not controversial.
In 2013, he was elected the 12th president.
He leaves behind his widow and three sons.
Condolences poured in on Twitter.
