Two more bodies retrieved from Jhimpir mine
THATTA: The bodies of two more colliers were retrieved from a coal mine in Jhimpir on Thursday. Six bodies were retrieved earlier in the day.
At least nine miners had gone missing when rainwater flooded a 300-feet-deep mine located near the Matang Railway Station in Jhimpir, Thatta two days ago.
The rescue operation started around 40 hours ago and will continue till the last miner’s body is retrieved.
Heavy machinery was used to drain the mine before rescue personal could enter the mine shaft.
The search and rescue operation had to be abandoned many times due to the rain, which led to labourers in the vicinity to protest. They blocked a nearby railway track that connects Sindh to Punjab.
