Envoys' conference begins today

A three-day envoys' conference will begin today in which nine envoys of Pakistan accredited to various world capitals and multilateral institutions will participate.
A statement issued here by the Foreign Office said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will address the concluding session of the conference where he would be briefed on the outcome, adding the premier would also share his vision of foreign policy.
The envoys who will participate are: Pakistan's ambassadors to US Jalil Abbas Jilani, Masood Khalid (Beijing), Maleeha Lodhi (UN New York), Ayesha Riyaz (Vienna), Naghmana Hashmi (Brussels/EU), Abrar Hussain (Afghanistan), Tehmina Janjua (UN/Geneva), Qazi M Khalilullah (Moscow) and High Commissioner Abdul Basit (New Delhi).
The envoys' conference is a regular feature in which Pakistan's representatives in various regions brief the government on important developments in their respective areas of accreditation, and challenges and opportunities arising out of such developments.
The statement said that the envoys also present their recommendations towards existing foreign policy with a view to review, adapt and recalibrate policy in accordance with the prevalent strategic, political and economic trends.
Last year's envoys' conference had focused on connectivity, and regional issues and developments, it added. -Business RecorderÂ
