Verdict not in accordance with the charges: Aitzaz Ahsan

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira along with Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, on Thursday said that Pakistan Peoples Party will give official reaction to the verdict in contempt of court case after consultations with its legal team.

Aitzaz Ahsan stated that the court's verdict is not in accordance with the charges pressed against the Prime Minister. In fact, The Prime Minister was charged with ridiculing the court's orders, where as the verdict does not speak of those charges.

He said Pakistan Peoples Party has reservations on the verdict in contempt of court case and it will give its reaction in due course of time.

Addressing a press conference, he said that the PPP has been contesting cases in the courts as it did not believe in confrontation with the courts.

He said when the court announced its verdict, Prime Minister's counsel, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan wanted to say something but he was not allowed to do so.

To a question, the Minister said the Prime Minister was very confident at the time of announcement of the Supreme Court verdict. The Minister said that a prime minister in the past was also convicted in political cases and this will prove to be an honour for him in history.

The Information Minister said that unfortunately PPP leaders had to face unfair trials in the past.

He said that anchor-persons need to be unbiased and should focus on objective reporting as there are courts to convict or acquit any person in the cases.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said the PPP believed in power of the masses and it will not weaken its contacts with the people.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said that in the past PML-N leader was convicted by the apex court, and later the same court gave him the relief. APP
