SC directs ECP to register votes of eunuchs
The Supreme Court on Monday issued orders to respective authorities for registration of Eunuchs as voters and acceleration of process to give them CNICs.
It ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to register the vote of the eunuchs and directed the deputy attorney general to submit the report before the court within two weeks in this regard. The court also directed National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to expedite the process of issuing the National Identity Cards without any delay to the eunuchs.
The apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the petition of Dr Aslem Khaqi regarding the rights for eunuchs in the country with Focal Person of the Eunuchs, Almas Boby, also present in the court.
During the course of proceedings, the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed that the government of Sindh has done a remarkable job in this regard and that the other provinces should follow Sindh as a role model.
Almas Boby, the focal person for eunuchs apprised the court that NADRA has issued Identity Cards to only four eunuchs and rest of them were waiting for their Identity Cards for last one month.
