Turkish Ambassador R Engin Soysal on Friday presented a cheque of US$ 10 million to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, out of US$ 100 million pledged by Turkey at the Donors’ Conference held in Tokyo on April 17.
Foreign Minister Qureshi thanked the Turkish ambassador for the assistance, underlining the huge importance Pakistan attaches to its brotherly relations with Turkey.
He also appreciated Turkey for offering to host the next Friends of Democratic Pakistan’s ministerial meeting in the second half of this year.
The Ambassador also handed over a letter from Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in which he conveyed Turkey’s strong condemnation for the recent heinous terrorist attacks in Lahore and Peshawar, and expressed Turkey’s full support to Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and militancy.
Soysal said the government of Turkey has already sent a special aircraft carrying relief assistance for the displaced population.
He informed the Foreign Minister that Turkey would soon announce a financial contribution to the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Fund for Victims of Terrorism, adding that Turkey stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan’s government and its people.
