KARACHI: Infamous Lyari gang war leader Ghaffar Zikri was killed in the wee hour of Thursday in a police shootout in Ali Muhammad area, Aaj News reported.
After receiving intelligence report on Ghaffar’s hideout, police and law enforcement agencies carried out an operation that lasted for more than an hour. During the operation, Zikri along, his three years old son along with his accomplice Chota Zahid were killed.
Zikri was using his own son as a human shield.
Two police officers also got injured in the crossfire, of which one is in a critical condition.
Huge cache of arms was seized from the gang war leader’s possession, including sub-machine guns (SMGs), hand grenades, bullets and magazines.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the city Police Chief Ameer Sheikh said Ghaffar Zikri was wanted to police in a number of high profile cases including kidnapping for ransom, target killing, extortion and attacks on law enforcement agencies. He carried head money of 2.5 million rupees.
The Karachi Police Chief announced a cash prize of five hundred thousand rupees for the police party involved in the action.
