KARACHI: An Accountability Court on Thursday awarded imprisonment and imposed fine on two officials of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) for causing loss of Rs.19.2367 million to the national exchequer.
Accountability Court No-III awarded 5 years rigorous imprisonment to Deputy Managing Director (BPS-20) Masood Alam Niazi and 7 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 6292151 to Accounts Officer (BPS-17) Ziaullah Khan Warsi.
In case of non-payment of fine Ziaullah Khan Warsi shall suffer rigorous imprisonment for one year more.
Both convicted shall also stand disqualified for 10 years after serving the sentence for seeking or from being elected, appointed or nominated for any federal or provincial or local authority post and shall not be allowed for financial facilities in the form of loan or advance from any bank or financial institution.
The both accused in connivance with each other misused their authority and misappropriated the amount showing fake payment on account of labour charges. The convicted officials caused loss to the tune of Rs.19.2367 million to the national exchequer. Both were arrested and sent to jail for serving their term.—APP
