ISLAMABAD: Government today unfolded plan for re-use of heritage buildings aimed at annual saving of 1.15 billion rupees on their maintenance and launched income generating projects instead.
Details of the plan were shared by Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood at a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, following a briefing given to Prime Minister Imran Khan on the subject.
The Minister said the Prime Minister and Governors would not reside in PM House and Governor Houses and decisions have been taken for their re-use.
According to the details, PM House in Islamabad would be converted into an institution of higher learning. For this purpose, additional structures would be built on the land adjacent to PM House.
A committee comprising Education Minister, Chairman Higher Education Commission and Dr. Attaur Rehman would submit a PC one of the project for approval.
The Minister said presently 470 million rupees are annually being spent on maintenance of PM House.
