Web Desk: As the world is using social media for getting news. But the people with devil desire makes use of it for spreading fake news and increasing fear among the masses.
India is the country, where social media specially Whatsapp is being used for spreading rumours. A district court in Varanasi has declared it a criminal offense. Most recently, the Indian government as a whole has been cracking down on Whatsapp hoaxes, and it turns out even innocent bystanders aren’t safe.
A 21-year-old college student from Madhaya Pradesh, Junaid Khan has been in jail for the past five months over an ‘objectionable’ message in a WhatsApp group.
The message was forwarded from the group to someone else, the recipient filed a police case. Khan was arrest based on evidence that he was the administrator of the WhatsApp group. According to Junaid’s parents, the message had been posted by another user Irfan and he was the original admin. It was when he left the group that Khan was made the default admin.
According to Khan’s family, he was unable to answer his exams because he was denied bail for his sedition charges. Supposedly they approached senior police officials and even the chief minister’s office, but to no avail.
