Tayyaba torture case: IHC sentence judge, wife to one year in jail

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) announced its verdict today on Tuesday in the Tayyaba torture case, Aaj News reported.

IHC Justice Aamir Farooq announced the long awaited judgement in which he sentenced former Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar to one year each in prison. The court also finned the couple 50,000 each.

The judgement was reserved on 27th March after completion of the  arguments from the both sides.

On December 29, 2016, the case garner attention of media outlets after a complaint was launch against Justice Khurram and his wife for torturing minor maid name ‘Tayyaba’.

After lodging an First Information Report (FIR) against the couple the initial reports submitted by the police suggested that Mrs Khurram was directly responsible for torturing the maid.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice of the compromise that took place later on January 3, 2017 and ordered the IHC to conduct trial of the case.
