ISLAMABAD: A group of German tourists appeared to get lost while travelling through a volatile region in south-western Pakistan on Wednesday, triggering panic and a massive search, officials said.
Six men and a woman were found in the mountains hours after they lost contact with their security entourage on their way to Punjab from the city of Quetta, said tribal police official Syed Mohibullah Agha.
They wandered in the mountains of Bolan near Quetta.
A massive search operation by police and the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary was launched to trace the “missing” tourists, Agha said.
“They were found in the mountains six hours after they disappeared,” the official added, saying more than 100 personnel took part in the search.
Agha said the “adventurous” tourists ditched their escort on purpose, but a local news television reported they lost the way.
Local media also put the number at just six.— DPA
