SC dismissed Marium Aurangzeb from PEMRA’s search committee


ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has dismissed Information Minister, Marium Nawaz from the search committee for selection of chairman PEMRA, Aaj News reported 

Three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, heard a commission case on Monday.

According to Additional Attorney Journal, Ra’na Waqar, government has established a team of seven members, for the selection of chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

Commission was formed after the Prime Minister’s approval,  the commission will choose the panel of three member of PEMRA.

The Supreme Court replaced the search committee for the selection of PEMRA chairman, and removed the Minister for Information Committee, Marium Aurangzeb, and included the Information Secretary in place of her.

Chief Justice said that Marium Aurangzeb would be busy in giving statements, and it would not possible for her to make time for the committee.

He also asked about the amendments in the laws of PEMRA.

Justice Sheikh Azmat questioned, ‘Is there any act in PEMRA’s law regarding fake news? It has become a big issue, Fabricate stories are now considered as a crime in Malaysia.”

Responding to which, Ra’na Waqar said, ‘It is important to control speculating stories.
