Ashiana Housing scam: Court remanded former LDA DG in NAB custody


LHORE: An accountability court  in Lahore has granted physical remand of former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general (DG) Ahad Cheema in NAB custody for 11 days in the Ashiana housing scam, Aaj News reported.

Former LDA DG appeared in the Lahore accountability court in strict security on Thursday.

During the hearing, NAB prosecutor Waris Ali Janjua said in the court, “Not a single house has been built in Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme, despite of passing 3 years. The contract was given to unauthorized company without any inquiry, which resulting the loss of more than one billion.”

He further said that Ahad Cheema had appeared once in the court for inquiry, therefore, physical remand was needed for a thorough inquiry.

“Inquiry begun on November 27, court summoned him to present in the court couple of times, but he appeared only once.”

“If there is no room built or work has not been started yet. It is not their responsiblity,” he added.

The court adjourned the case till March 5.
