ISLAMABAD: The government on Sunday directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority to restore transmission of all private television channels , AajNews reported.

The suspension was ordered by the PEMRA yesterday for violating media regulations showing live coverage of a security operation, a statement from the regulator said.

According to PEMRA, the federal government had also issued a policy directive asking the Authority to take the news and current affairs channels off-air, which would violate the agreed guidelines regarding the coverage of the sit-in at Faizabad, Islamabad and elsewhere in the country.

The guidelines had been sent to the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA).
