16 people scalded as furnace of steel mills exploded

HATTAR:At least 16 people scalded and injured when a furnace exploded owing to
heavy load of melted iron at a local steel mills in Hattar Industrial Estate on Wednesday, police said.

According to the workers of Ittehad Steel Mills, the incident occurred due to break of steel rope of the iron furnace which was holding tons of melted steel exploded on the floor of the mills resulting 16 workers of the steel mills injured.

Workers of other factories in Hattar industrial estate and Hattar police reached the spot and started rescue operation, all injured were shifted to Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF) Wah hospital Burn unit where 7 scalded workers were declared critical.

Talking to APP, SHO Hattar police station Hadi Pristan Tanoli said seven out of 16 injured workers were critical and shifted to Intensive Care Unit of POF Wah burn unit. He further said a case against the owner Abdul Jaleel and General Manager Jamshed was registered in Hattar police station under section 337 L.

The scalded workers of the steel mills were identified as Akra, Faiz Rasheed, Sahid Rasheed, Jahangir, Sajid Ali, Waqas, Shahbaz, Waseem, Afzal, Fazal Ahmed, Saifullah, Nadeem, Saddam, Naeem Abbass, Muhammad Sher and Khurshed. Unfortunately in all over Hazara division, there was no burn unit facility available in the hospitals.—APP
