KARACHI: Karachi police here on Monday raided two units manufacturing Gutka (a concoction of hazardous chemical items with compromised quality of betel nuts as its essential component) causing oral cancer among the local population.
SP-Orangi Town, Abid Ali Baloch talking to media said the raid was made as part of an ongoing crackdown against the prohibited item called Gutka exposing its users to serious health conditions.
The crackdown was said to be initiated as per orders of the Sindh High Court.
Senior police officer said factories functional at Al-Sadaf Colony, Sector 10, Punjab Chowrangi and Madina Colony, sector 11, Mominabad were raided and sealed.
Gutka and its different components worth Rs.1.5 million was also said to be confiscated with Mst. Rehana and Junaid, cited to be the owners of the two units, were taken into custody.—APP
