Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Sates Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry reiterated that Haqqani network has moved to Afghanistan and Afghan officials should focus on eliminating them within their own territory, Aaj News reported.
In an interview with Washington Times, he vehemently denied National Directorate of Security (NDS) accusations that Haqqani Network is operating from Pakistan’s North Waziristan region.
NDS, the premier Afghan intelligence agency blamed last Wednesday’s suicide bombing on Pakistan in which at least 90 people were killed and scores were injured when a suicide bomber drove a truck into Kabul’s diplomatic area and detonated it near German embassy.
Afghan intelligence agency on several occasions has claimed that Haqqani network has safe havens in Pakistan, claimed that Islamabad denies strongly.
Aizaz Chaudhry clearly stated that Haqqani Network is on the run in the wake of large-scale counter-terrorism offensives in North Waziristan and they have moved into Afghanistan and need to be taken care of there.
He said scapegoating Pakistan for failures in Afghanistan will not help improve security situation in either country.
