KARACHI: The Sindh Social Welfare Department in scrutiny of 10,000 registered non-governmental organizations in Sindh has found a total 4070 NGOs dormant.
The Sindh Social Welfare Department has said that 4070 NGOs are violating articles 4, 9 and 12 of the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies Ordinance 1961 and Rules 1962, which are served notice under relevant rule for cancellation of registration, said a statement on Thursday.
The step is taken on the directives of Sindh Minister for Social Welfare Shamim Mumtaz to streamline the working of NGOs and weed out the non-functional organizations, explained Deputy Director Voluntary Agencies Samad Chana in a statement on Thursday.
He added that in first phase inactive NGOs have been served notices, while scrutiny is underway to sort out NGOs that failed to renew yearly registration which is mandatory under rules.
Chana informed that 478 NGOs of Karachi division, 499 Khairpur Mirs, 558 NoShehro Feroz, 219 Larkana, 122 Qambar Shahdad Kot, 215 Badin, 258 Ghotki , 320 Shaheed Benazirabad, 313 Sanghar, 199 Sukkur, 148 Hyderabad, 110 Mirpur Khas, 99 Shikar Pur, 91 Matiari, 88 Jacobabad, 56 Tharparkar, 63 Tando Muhammad Khan, 62 Jamshoro, 28 Kandh Kot and 45 NGOs of district Umer Kot were served notices.—APP
