Military court cease to operate on expiry of mandated period: ISPR

The military courts have ceased to function on expiry of mandated period, said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.

According to ISPR, the courts were established through the constitutional amendment to hinder the heightened terrorism.

The statement also said that during the period of its validity, 274 cases were referred to Military Courts. 161 culprits were awarded death penalty and 12 of them have been executed.

It said that 113 were awarded imprisonment of different duration.

It said that cases were dealt through due process of law in Military Courts.

The disposal through military courts yielded positive effects towards the reduction in terrorist’s activities.
