Imran has no evidence against Nawaz family, say PML-N leaders

WEB DESK : Rejecting the new documents presented by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) before the Supreme Court in Panama Papers case, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Monday said that the opposition party has no evidence against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif or his family members.

Addressing a joint press conference, Chairman Privatisation Commission Muhammad Zubair along with MNA Daniyal Aziz Chaudhary said that the Prime Minister’s family submitted reply on due date but Chairman PTI Imran Khan and his lawyers failed to provide anything against the Prime Minister or his family except the clippings of newspapers and a book written against them (Sharif family).

They said that due to the non-availability of evidence, Khan’s counsel Hamid Khan had refused to appear before the court on behalf of the PTI and the party was forced to hire the services of other counsels who also do not have any evidence.

Zubair sated that the PTI workers must ask their leadership as to why Imran and Jehangir Khan Tareen didn’t mention their assets in the papers filed with the Election Commission. He said that Imran is the person who purchased flats in London by establishing an offshore company, which was the first ever offshore company of any Pakistani abroad.

The PTI leadership made huge hue and cry regarding Panama Papers against the Prime Minister and his family but when the apex court asked him to present proofs in this regard, instead of submitting proofs, they gave reference of the Prime Minister’s speech in the National Assembly and submitted clippings of newspapers along with a book written against the Prime Minister’s family.

Zubair demanded that the chairman PTI should be held accountable for his alleged unaccounted for wealth, asking him to explain why he allegedly concealed his offshore company. They alleged Imran’s confidants for corruption and questioned about basis of his anti-corruption rhetoric, accusing Secretary General of PTI Jehangir Tareen of accumulating assets in the name of his servants during his tenure as minister.

Daniyal Aziz said the chairman PTI led a ‘theatre act’ in Raiwind, but failed to produce any proof neither against the Prime Minister nor against his family. He said that the book which was quoted as evidence in the Panama Leaks case talked about recipes of buttermilk and carrot pudding.

Tareen’s cook, Haji Khan is declared owner of around Rs 37 million in documents and he should produce him before the public, Daniyal Aziz demanded. He said the PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has completely failed in preventing corruption in the province, adding the KPK government is also creating hurdles in the way of action against this menace. He said the PTI is trying to prolong the case proceedings using delaying tactics.

Daniyal Aziz said the chairman PTI has not yet replied to the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding allegations on the PTI funds. The leaders of PLM-N also said that Imran in his papers filed with the Election Commission mentioned that 300 kanals land in Bani Gala in Islamabad had been gifted to him by his ex-wife Jemima Khan.

They further said that Jemima Khan in London had stated that the Bani Gala land was purchased by Imran Khan and thus he should come forward to clarify his position.
