The prevalent circumstance between India and Pakistan has left the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali with no option but to decline the request form his Indian counterpart to attend the global conference ‘National Initiative towards Strengthening Arbitration and Enforcement in India’.
Indian government is organising a three-day conference from October 21-23 in New Delhi in order to promote India as a global hub for arbitration amongst international practitioners, corporate houses and the Indian legal fraternity with support from five international arbitration institutions; HKIAC, ICC, KLRCA, LCIA and SIAC.
During July this year, Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Gautam Bambawala had personally invited the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer to participate in the event for an interactive session on ‘The Future of International Arbitration’, scheduled on October 23.
Sources told the Business Recorder that Ministry of Foreign Affairs left the choice up to the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali to attend the conference.
The source further said keeping in perspective the continuous tense circumstance between India and Pakistan the Chief Justice of Pakistan principally decided to refuse participation in the conference. –Business Recorder
