The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the NAB prosecutor general to appear before the court on October 5 in response to a petition against the bureau for not initiating a probe into offshore companies owned by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.
The court also issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Federal Board of Revenue for next date of hearing.
Earlier, Advocate Azhar Siddique represented the petitioner and argued that the matter of the Panama papers was very sensitive and needed to be investigated without any delay as allegations of establishing offshore companies by the rulers brought a bad name to the country.
He said several applications had been filed to the NAB chairman for action against the PM, his family members and all others named in the leaks but no inquiry had been initiated into the matter. -Business Recorder
