WEB DESK: Ajay Devgn came out strongly in support of actress Tannishtha Chatterjee and denounced humour that goes overboard and crosses limits.
Condemning the incident where Tannishtha was racially roasted on a comedy show, Ajay said, “There has to be a limit to humour. I haven’t seen the show but yes sometimes sense of humour goes overboard.”
The Shivaay actor also ridiculed the prevailing racist mindset in India that sees fair skinned people as beautiful at the expense of dark skinned ones.”People don’t become beautiful just because they are fair.
This is why we have so many fairness creams selling in our country. It is the mindset that we have to change. I have often noticed how many address waiters in India as, “Ae, come here.” The same person will go to a foreign country and call a waiter there with a much more dignified, “Excuse me.”
Ajay believes the problem lies in the mindset of men. “We need to fill in a lot of gaps. Mindset needs to be changed. Problem is not with the girls but it lies with the men of this land. We need to change the men and their mindset and what they think about girls.”
Ajay was talking at Smile foundation event of which he is the goodwill brand ambassador. Talking about his commitment towards girl child and women empowerment, Ajay said, “I have been associated with Smile for five years.
It’s my lucky charm. I have a daughter at home and I believe education is the most important thing to be given to a girl child. To bring about a change everybody has to come together.
Girls the world over suffer from some problem or other. I would like to change that. I can do that only if we have some support from everyone.”
