Interior Ministry on Sunday issued notification empowering Pakistan Army to maintain public order and ensure security during election in Azad Kashmir to be held on July 21.
The Interior Ministry, while using its constitutional powers, notified empowering the army under Article 245 to monitor security and public order during the Kashmir elections, according to a press release.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had requisitioned the Interior Ministry to acquire services of Pakistan Army for supervising the security situation and public order during the elections.
It stated that the governments of Azad Kashmir, Punjab, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan have also endorsed the requisition in their respective constituencies. While governments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had refused to deploy the army it the two provinces for the AJK elections, it added.
“It is not possible to deploy the army in some areas and not in others for Azad Kashmir elections.” Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said in the statement.
He said that implementation on a same policy in the whole country and Azad Kashmir is necessary because the ruling parties in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces were also taking part in the AJK elections.
“This message is important not only for Azad Kashmir but also crucial for the whole country that elections in AJK are held transparent and non-controversial,” Nisar added. -Business Recorder
