Quetta Law College principal shot dead

The Principal of University of Balochistan’s Law College, Barrister Amanullah Achakzai, was shot dead by unknown assailants on Spini Road, here on Wednesday morning.

According to police, Barrister Amanullah was on his way to work when unidentified assailants riding motorcycles opened fire on him in Kalli Tarkha area.

Police said the barrister was severely wounded when his vehicle was sprayed with bullets by the gunmen.

Achakzai succumbed to his wounds before he could be shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta. Doctors reported that Achakzai was hit by five to six bullets.

Police and Frontier Corps reached the scene and started investigation. Police said there have been no claims of responsibility for the attack and the reason behind the attack could not be immediately ascertained.

Chief Minister Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri severely condemned the principal’s killing and directed police to arrest the culprits and submit a report.

A group of lawyers arrived at the hospital and strongly protested against the incident. Later, they marched towards Governor House and raised anti-government slogans. The lawyers announced a boycott of courts in protest of the barrister’s killing.

Amanullah Achakzai was nephew of Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai and Pashtunkhwa Miilli Awami Party (PMAP) leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai. Relatives of the victim told that he had no enmity with anyone. –INP
