President address reflections of peoples aspirations: KP politicians

PESHAWAR: Politicians of mainstream political parties here Wednesday said the address of President Mamnoon Hussain to the joint setting of Parliament was comprehensive, balanced and reflected aspirations of nation.

They said the President had covered all issues including politics, economy, democracy, rule of law, three years performance of government, energy and CPEC and laid great emphasis for making collective efforts by giving more strength to democratic process for achieving socio-economic development of the country.

Terming the address of the President wide-ranging, foresighted and comprehensive in all respect, Rushad Khan MPA told APP that President Mamnoon Hussain had rightly pointed out issues, the country facing today and suggested workable solutions to address them on sound footings.

He called upon opposition parties to avoid indulging in politics of confrontation and instead concentrate on promoting national interest.

Rushad Khan said personal differences should not override national interest and neither the opposition and nor any group has the right to unlawfully impose its will on the elected government.

Rushad Khan said political system had gained potential to face crises successfully and the nation was now convinced that the objective of sustainable economic development and stability was not possible without democracy.

“Political stability is required for sustainable economic development of the country and time has come that we should rise above party politics and work for further strengthening of democratic system in the country.”

Rehmat Salam Khattak, a PML-N leader hailed the address of President and termed it wide ranging in every respect and reflected people’s aspirations.

He said the President was very right to say that the governments and rulers come and go but the state lasts and this reality is the foundation of the whole system.

Salam said political differences should not be allowed to adversely affect the country’s economy as only a strong economic base could ensure a strong and stable Pakistan.

He termed the suggestion of President, who called upon the nation to get united on the agenda of economic development for continuity in economic policies in all situations, is praiseworthy.

He said CPEC was a life line project and political cohesion was required for its successful completion. Youaf Sarwar, former President KPCCI told APP President’s address was very important in the prevailing geo-political situation in the region and presented workable solutions to the government in different fields.

He said inexpensive electricity required for industrial growth and expressed the hope that the problem of present energy shortfall would be addressed by 2018.

He said the LNG import from Qatar would greatly help increase industrial production besides revival of sick industrial units and give new life to transport sectors and promotion of infant industries.

Sarwar said President has rightly pointed out towards alternative sources of energy including hydel, solar, wind and coal etc keeping its huge potential to cater of our ever growing energy requirements.

He appreciated the President’s proposal for focusing on producing electricity from water channels in Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and other Upper areas for providing inexpensive and abundant electricity for domestic, agriculture and industrial consumption of the country.

He said Diamir Basha and Dasu dams following completion would immensely help address the problems of energy shortfall in the country.- APP
