Islamabad storm: PM takes notice of meteorological depart ‘failure’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif issued notice to Pakistan Meteorological department (PMD) over deaths caused by severe thunderstorm and heavy winds in the capital on Friday, Aaj news reported.

PM Nawaz took notice of the irresponsibility shown by Pakistan Meteorological department (PMD) regarding the severe storm that hit twin cities on June 01.

PM’s house sources report, severe thunderstorm and high winds were observed in numerous cities of the state including twin cities and its effects could observe earlier that day.

The notice states that lack of responsibility, no warnings concerning storm and heavy winds caused deaths . Despite of having advanced technology, red alert was not being issued which became the reason of the lost of many innocent lives, the notice added.

In this regard, PM Nawaz also asked DG Ghulam Rasool to submit his written explanation in the office timings.
