Recipe of the day: Chicken Shawarma


Chicken (boneless) – ½ kg (cut it to thin strips)

Red chili powder – 2 tsp

Coriander powder – ½ tsp

Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp

Cumin powder – ¼ tsp

Garam masala powder – ½ tsp

Ginger – garlic paste – 2 tsp

Yogurt – 3 tbsp

Lemon juice – 1 tbsp

Salt – to taste

Oil – 3 tbsp


Marinate the chicken pieces with the remaining ingredients except oil for about 2 – 3 hours.

Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan and fry the marinated chicken pieces till cooked over high flame stirring occasionally. Remove from flame.


Pita bread – 5 – 6 (homemade or store bought)

Mayonnaise/ garlic dip – ¼ cup

Lettuce leaf – as required

Onion – 1, thinly sliced

Tomato – 2, thinly sliced

Cabbage – 1 cup, thinly sliced

Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp

Lemon juice – 1 tbsp

French fries – for serving

Salt – to taste


In a bowl combine together chicken pieces, thinly sliced onion, tomatoes, cabbage, coriander leaves, lemon juice and salt.

In a plate, place pita bread and spread little mayonnaise or garlic dip over the pita bread. Place lettuce leaf over it, put the chicken mixture over it and top it with some French fries. Drizzle little mayonnaise all over. Repeat the process with the remaining pita bread, and serve immediately.
