Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) PS-112 MPA Khurrum Sherzaman expressing full support for the Pakistan Rangers, which is leading Karachi operation, urged that it should be continued with more intensity.
The recent kidnapping of Owais Shah and the targeted killing of Amjad Sabri has led to second-guessing of the effectiveness of the Karachi Operation among various political and media circles.
Sherzaman stated, “Despite the increase in street crimes over the past few days and the sad incidents of Owais Shah’s kidnapping and Amjad Sabri’s murder does not mean that the Karachi operation is a complete failure and should be rolled back or frozen.
Rolling back the operation now would directly play into the hands of the very terrorists and criminals that this operation is pursuing.
“The Karachi operations must be revamped and continue with more intensity. In addition, I demand that the federal and Sindh governments should mandate the Pakistan Rangers to conduct similar operation in the rest of Sindh, as there are criminal elements all over the province that should be brought to justice.
“No doubt, there are shortcomings in the operation, especially when it comes to allegations of missing persons and the use of torture.
Violations of fundamental rights are intolerable and the judiciary must play an oversight role.
“The Pakistan Rangers and other law enforcement agencies must be able to do their job without having their hands tied behind their back due to constant whining by a particular political party.
The long-term solution to tackling crime and terrorism is implementing major police and criminal justice reforms but until this happens, we must support the Pakistan Rangers operation in Karachi”. -PR
