Joint opposition stage walk out from National Assembly


ISLAMABAD: The joint opposition on Thursday staged walkout from National Assembly on what they said “the unsatisfactory apology” of Minister of Water and Power Khawaja Asif to Dr Shireen Mazari.

The joint opposition legislators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Peoples Party, Jamat-e-Islami, etc staged walkout on refusal of Khawaja Asif to personally apologise to Dr Shireen Mazari.

Parliamentary leader of PTI Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi asked Khawaja Asif to apologise for attributing un parliamentary remarks to her during his Wednesday speech in the House.

Earlier Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif sought unconditional apology for the remarks attributed by him saying he did not name Dr Mazari and he was ready to apologise to Dr Mazari if he had named her in his last day’s speech.

Dr Nafeesa Shah of Pakistan Peoples Party said Khawaja Asif had insulted the entire parliament. Although Khawaja Asif had not named Dr Mazari but he made obvious reference towards Dr Mazari.

She urged Women Parliamentary Caucus to condemn remarks of Khawaja Asif.

Asif seeks unconditional apology for unparliamentary remarks

Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif Thursday sought unconditional apology from the opposition legislators for his unparliamentary remarks attributed in his last day’s speech in the National Assembly.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said he was unable to come to the House earlier in the morning due to some pressing official engagements, so he had delivered a letter to Speaker National Assembly seeking apology for his remarks in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

He said during his last day’s speech in House, he was persistently interrupted by the opposition legislators, the remarks were his natural reaction, which should not have been made.

He admitted that he had crossed the limits, and after apology the issues should be settled.

He asked the Speaker to confirm from Wednesday’s proceedings of the House he had not named anyone. “If I had named anyone on Wednesday’s remarks I am ready to apologize from him or her hundred times.”-APP
