KARACHI: International Boxing Star Amir Khan has said that boxing matches showcasing seven International Boxers including his brother Haroon, Harry King Khan was being organized to raise funds for providing clean drinking water for people of Thar.
He was addressing a press conference Wednesday,flanked by other international boxers and representatives of organizations sponsoring the event.Besides, we will also support the boxing culture and encourage international events in Pakistan, he said.
The earnings of the events would be handed over to Amir Khan Foundation which utilize the funds in building water wells in Thar for providing portable water to Thari people, he added.
He watched the video where he found how people in Thar were suffering due to scarcity of clean drinking water and the extreme poverty that resulted in a number of death toll, he claimed.
The foundation has been working globally to eradicate poverty and facilitate in providing basic necessities of life to the underprivileged.
We are setting up the academies for promoting the boxing in the Pakistan and first academy would be established in Islamabad and later in other cities in Pakistan, he added.
“Our youth posses immense potential but they lack opportunities and guidance in the field of sports”, Khan said.
The idea of setting up academies is to bring international boxing to Pakistan and support world class entertainment and exposure of boxing in the country, he added.
He also offered thanks to Doda Khan Bhutto President of Pakistan Boxing Federation for supporting this initiative and Pak Army, Rangers and Police for providing the overall security and safe commutation facility to him and his team during their stay.
Reply to a question, he said that people should focus on extending support as problems could be resolved especially in the field of sports.
“Before launching the project of providing clean drinking water, he would himself visit the Thar and meet the people to know ground realities of problems there”, he said while replying another question.
Funds are being raised from this events through tickets and donations by dignitaries attending the main event especially on June 02 (Thursday) to be followed by Dinner.
The main Fight Night will be held on June 02 at the Pearl Continental hotel Karachi where seven international boxers Tasif Khan, Gallagher Dyle, Jody Meikle, Stuart Maddox, Fracis Peter Douglas Croes, Haroon Khan and Phil Townley will participate.
Besides, Live Training Match is being organized at Ferere Hall at 6:30 where the boxers would hold the fight with each other.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naveed Asghar Chief Marketing Officer HBL said that his bank had always supported and promoted sports in Pakistan.
“It is not only an international event in the country but a milestone in the revival of boxing in Pakistan”, he said adding we would continue supporting such events in future which are not only playing a vital role in raising funds for the deprived but providing a sense of motivation for the youth to pursue their dreams.

International boxer Aamir Khan calls on IGP Sindh
KARACHI: International boxer Aamir Khan leading a six-member delegation called on Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, A.D. Khawaja, in his office here on Wednesday.
Matters pertaining to social welfare as well as sports came up for discussion, a police spokesman said.
The IGP lauded the welfare activities and the commitment to serve the poor and suggested that the scope of such activities be expanded to the backward area of Tharparkar.
He also called for mobile dispensaries especially for the treatment of eye diseases so that the poor could avail such facilities.
The delegation agreed with the suggestion of the IGP Sindh in this regard and said that social and sports activities would soon be initiated in Tharparkar as well on the pattern of those of Karachi.-APP
