Death of five factory workers, CM Sindh seeks report

KARACHI, May 15 (APP): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, expressing profound grief on the death of five laborers in a factory of Korangi Industrial area, has directed the secretary labor to submit a detailed report within three days with recommendation of action against the factory management.

The Chief Minister raised a few question that how the labourers were working on holiday (Sunday), what kind of work they were engaged for, whether they were covered in social security or not and what safety measure the factory management had taken to protect life of the workers working there?

The Chief Minister directed the Labour Department to give him report of the questions he has raised and the action taken by the Labour Department and suggest action by Chief Minister, if necessary.

He vowed that he would not allow any body to usurp the right of poor workers and turning them like-bonded labour.

Five laborers die in Industrial area

KARACHI: Five labourers died in Karachi’s Korangi Industrial area on Sunday probably due to exposure of chemical gas, a police official said.

He said that the labourers were cleaning an underground tank in a chemical factory when the mishap occurred.

The Joint Director of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Dr.Seemi Jamali, said that the five labourers were brought dead at the JPMC.

She further pointed out that two of the victims were brothers. –APP
