PESHAWAR: A constable was martyred and at least 16 others including policemen, media men and passerby injured in two IEDs blasts targeting a police mobile van in the jurisdiction of Mathra police station here Wednesday, police official told APP.
The blasts occurred in Mathra locality with a gap of half-an-hour where two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) went off one after the other, injuring seventeen people of whom one cop succumbed to his injuries at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).
Officials said, the first explosion targeted a police van, injuring a cop and another man riding a motorbike while the second went off amidst the people gathered around the scene for rescue work which proved fatal injuring fourteen others. One of the injured cops in second blast died of his wounds at LRH.
Members of bomb disposal squad and television channels were also among the injured. They were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.
SSP Operations, Abbas Majid said policemen were the target of the blasts and four to five kilogram explosive were used in the IEDs that were exploded through remote control.
Security forces cordoned off the scene and started search operation to nab the culprits. Mathra situated at the confluence of settled and semi tribal belt of Peshawar.-APP
