Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is “overseeing the affairs of the state” in London where he will undergo heart surgery as advised by doctors, the Prime Minister House said on Saturday.
“The PM is duly assisted by his Principal Secretary, Military Secretary and other staff members,” a statement said.
The statement came hours after ministers and the family said that Nawaz Sharif will undergo an open heart surgery in London.
The statement said the Prime Minister is kept abreast on routine matters of the country and his directions are accordingly conveyed to the concerned quarters.
It added that the Prime Minister is in constant contact with the Federal Ministers, Cabinet members and other concerned.
“It is important to note that there are no postponements or delays in the matters pertaining to the routine functioning of the state.”
After the Prime Minister undergoes surgery in the coming days, he would be instantly discharging responsibilities as the Chief Executive of the country, according to the statement.
“It is; however, natural and understandable that the Prime Minister will be off from any activities when is actually operated on by the doctors. God willing soon after the surgery, the Prime Minister will be supervising State’s affairs with the same spirit and energy,” the statement said.
The Prime Minister will be travelling back to Pakistan on the advice of the doctors, after the surgery, the statement concluded.
It is said that all present and previous expenditures incurred on the Prime Minister’s treatment, investigations/medical tests, lodging, etc, in the UK are borne by the family of the PM from their personal kitty.
In this regard, no expenses are claimed from the national exchequer.
