ETPB chairman Farooq vows to end land occupation

LAHORE: Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Muhammad Siddiqul Farooq has vowed to retrieve the Trust lands from land-grabbers and establish the government writ at any cost.

Addressing the media after an operation carried out in Nankana Sahib on Saturday to retrieve 45 kanals of the Trust land from illegal occupation, he said local MPA Zulqarnain Dogar was patronizing the qabza mafia in the area.

He said around a hundred police officials, 10 woman police, 100 unarmed guards of the Trust, and 15 lady guards took part in the operation under the supervision of Administrator Wahab Gul and Deputy Administrator Muhammad Ishaq. When action was under way to demolish an illegally constructed house of Muhammad Akbar Arian at Karmanwala Chowk, a group of people comprising 200 men and women armed with fire arms from village Kot Sanat Ram attacked the anti-encroachment squad.

The attackers shot at and injured security guards of Siddiqul Farooq – Muhammad Saqib and Muhammad Babar- and also damaged his vehicle. Two police inspectors and other officials were also injured in the attack. The attackers forced the police to flee the area and  later on they set on fire the Trust office in the city and also got closed shops in the market.

The chairman said he, later on, informed the Punjab home secretary and the IGP about the incident on telephone.- APP
