Crime Enactment Shows to ban

WEB DESK: PEMRA is in action these days.  The media regulatory authority has been in news for two weeks. The notice issued by PEMRA to a drama serial, “Udaari”, which is about sexual abuse and harassment had made PEMRA prominent in news these days.

The notice was sent for airing inappropriate scenes, complained by people that they promote immoral behavior and criminal activities. A legal notice was sent to the makers of the drama serial and they have to provide an explanation by May 29.

While the case of Udaari has been in pending, PEMRA issued a new guide line for the media organizations, According to the new guide lines all the crime enactment shows and those involving police raids are banned from 1st Ramzan.

Chairman of PEMRA, Absar Alam added that all content depicting or dramatizing rape, suicide, and violence will be prohibited. The aim is to ensure that local television channels respect the sanctity of Ramazan.

“Airing interviews of abuse victims will be prohibited too. TV channels should respect the holy month of Ramazan,” he stated.

TV serials are also restricted to show any kind of improper behavious, obscenity, rape, abuse or suicide. Immediate actions will be taken against the channels who would not follow the guidelines provided by PEMRA.
