Angelina joins field of academia

WEB DESK: The Oscar winning actress and representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Angelina Jolie is now joining the field of academia.

The London School of Economics, is among the British’s most prestigious universities, has appointed Ms. Jolie as visiting faculty alongside former foreign secretary William Hague

Angelina will serve as a lecturer for a one year course, which will include modules such as ‘Women, Peace and Security,’ ‘Gender and Militarization’ as well as ‘Gender and Human Rights.’

Ms. Jolie says, “I am very encouraged by the creation of this master’s program. I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict.”

“I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations,” she added.

Angelina Jolie has been a goodwill ambassador for the UNHRC. Also she has been a devoted campaigner for the fight against female genital mutilation, refugee rights and violation of women’s rights.

Lord Hague who hosted a four-day summit two years ago in London on ending sexual violence in war, with Jolie said, he was “delighted” to be appointed. Angelina has recently been vocal about the refugee crisis, and the failure of European governments to address it.
