WEB DESK: West Indian man of the match Marlon Samuels has been penalised by the ICC for his conduct in a surprising final over
Samuels has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council for his last-over run-in with England’s Ben Stokes.
Samuels gave Stokes a spray after the allrounder was hit for four successive sixes by Carlos Brathwaite in the final over to win in a dramatic fashion at Eden Gardens.
He breached Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match”.
Samuels also slammed Australian legend Shane Warne after his critical remarks of the West Indian’s dismissal in the semi-final upset against India in Mumbai.
“Shane Warne has been talking continuously and all I want to say is ‘this (man-of-the-match award) is for Shane Warne’,” Samuels told the host broadcaster upon receiving his award.
“I answer with the bat and not the mic.”
