DUBAI: Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday said the people poking fun at the constitution of Pakistan were traitors of nation.
“Hopefully, the Constitution Day will highlight the importance of the constitution in nation. The constitution is surety of Pakistani citizens’ rights,” he said in a message on the Constitution Day.
Zardari said violation of constitution was equal to mistreatment of nation. The dictator not only violated the constitution but also made fun of it by calling it a 15-page document.
The Constitution Day in connection with the Pakistan’s 1973 constitution is being observed today across country.
This constitution is the supreme law of Pakistan. It was approved by the National Assembly on April 10, in 1973. It was given presidential approval on 12 August and unanimously ratified on 14 August 1973.
The 1973 constitution has 280 articles and in all 22 amendments have been made to it so far.
The constitution is intended to guide Pakistan’s law and its political culture, and system. All the government buildings are lit today with lamps.
