ISLAMABAD: Pakistan captain Mohammad Irfan believes his young team can overcome defending champions New Zealand in their second match of the ongoing 2016 Azlan Shah hockey tournament on Saturday at Ipoh city of Malaysia.
Irfan said that an impression should not be given that his side did not possess the skill to overcome the defending champions.
“We have achieved success before. This time we will come up with a better plan,” he added.
Pakistan got off to a winning start in the tournament as they thrashed Canada 3-1 in the opening match. However New Zealand have remained winless in their first two outings, drawing first fixture against hosts Malaysia 3-3 and the second against Canada 1-1 on Thursday. The Black Sticks need to win all their remaining matches in order to qualify for the final. If Pakistan defeat them, they will be heading for an early exit from the event.
