ISLAMABAD: Former Captain Aamir Sohail has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to improve domestic circuit in the country instead of appointing a new foreign coach.
Aamir said the coach can only teach strategies to the players but the talent comes up from the domestic level which is lacking. “I cannot understand why PCB is in a hurry to do things quickly,” he said.
He also advised the PCB not to rush in making Twenty20 Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed the captain of all three formats. “I am not against in giving him the captaincy but give him gradually,” he said adding let him settle down first in the T20 format.
Speaking about Afridi’s future as a player in the team, he said selectors should first see whether he is fit or not and then treat him the way they want to.
Former Leg spinner Abdul Qadir believes the captain should be given the full responsibility in selection and other team matters for the betterment of the game.
Qadir said instead appointing a new coach for the team, I feel the captain should be given a say in selection and other important team matters.
“The PCB Chairman should also include ex-cricketers in the governing body in order to improve the game locally and internationally,” he said.
He also praised PCB for handing over T20 captaincy to Sarfraz Ahmed.
“I fully back the 1992 World Cup winning captain Imran Khan that the captain should be the same of all three formats,” he said.
He however said that he is really disappointed with Ex-Coach Waqar Younis and Ex-Skipper Shahid Afridi who did not take the responsibility for the Asia Cup and World T20 defeat.
