Suraj Vaidya takes over as President, SAARC CCI

ISLAMABAD: In an exhilarating ceremony in Kathmandu, Suraj Vaidya was appointed as the President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) for two years from 2016-17.

Suraj Vaidya has formerly been the Chairman of the SAARC Tourism Council, during which time he worked assiduously to promote South Asia as an attractive tourist destination, said a statement issued here on Tuesday.

In a symbolic gesture, he accepted the SAARC CCI Presidential PIN from former President Vikramjit Singh Sahney.

This signifies that the mantel has passed from one country to the other. Present at the Presidential Ceremony were the Right Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal, K.P. Sharma Oli and the Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamal Thapa.

Both the leaders expressed their confidence and satisfaction at the taking over of new responsibilities of Suraj Vaidya and his team. In his address, Suraj Vaidya outlined his vision.

His vision holistically encapsulated in a six point agenda, which included greater investments, the promotion of Industrial Parks, promotion of Youth Angels and development of Smart Green Villages among them.

With fresh and new ideas, with vibrant and dynamic energy, Suraj Vaidya with his team of newly elected VPs assured that he and his team will dedicate their next two years for the advancement and betterment of South Asia. SAARC CCI Secretary General Iqbal Tabish expressed his happiness at the event.

“The Chamber needs an experienced and committed individual at this point and the secretariat is ready to provide all the support in fulfilling the vision of the incoming President” he said immediately after the event.
