PESHAWAR: At least seven miners were killed while 10 others received injuries as a coal mine collapsed because of gas explosion in Kurez area of Lower Orakzai Agency on Saturday night, political authorities told.
The rescue team safely rescued 27 miners whereas operation was underway for the safe recovery of 6 to 7 persons who believed to be still under the debris.
The ISPR authorities informed that more than 100 army and FC troops have continued operation with the help of heavy machinery and medical support.
As many as 27 labourers have so far been rescued, while efforts are underway to recover remaining six to seven persons still stranded under the rubble.
The injured have been shifted to Kalaya Hospital in Lower Orakzai Agency and DHQ hospital Kohat, where condition of some of the injured was stated to be critical.
The dead and majority of injured belong to Shangla district.
Meanwhile, KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jagra has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the incident and has directed the authorities to expedite the rescue operation.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif expressed his utmost grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of coal mine collapse in Orakzai Agency.
The PM extended condolences to the families of those who became victims of the catastrophe.
Nawaz Sharif also directed the concerned Federal Government’s agencies to utilize all available resources for emergency relief and evacuation operations, said a press release of the PM Office Media wing.
