Russian hockey club to visit Pakistan


KARACHI: The Russian hockey club team is due to arrive here later this month to play a series of Test matches against Pakistan junior team, Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Shahbaz Ahmed said on Thursday.

“This is a good news and boost for Pakistan hockey as a foreign club will be visiting Pakistan after a long time,” he told APP.

He said details and dates of the tour are being worked out and finalized in consultations with Russian Hockey Federation in due course of time.

He said Russian club named Dinamo Field Hockey would be playing three to four Test matches against Pakistan Juniors in Karachi during their probable stay from March 31 to April 7.

Russian Club is touring Pakistan in preparations for the European Hockey league.

PHF Secretary said Pakistan junior team will be finalized during the trials in Lahore on March 25.
Pakistan Junior team will be playing a series of three matches against Azlan Shah Cup bound Pakistan Seniors hockey team in Lahore before the series against Russian club.

In the meantime PHF Marketing Director Olympian Kamran Ashraf has said that PHF have signed a MoU with the company as a co-sponsor to provide impetus to domestic hockey.

He said PHF was looking for good sponsor in order to build the hockey which was not possible without good sponsors.
