Qadir asked removal of PCB selection committee

ISLAMABAD: Former leg-spinner Abdul Qadir on Monday called for the removal of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee for choosing such below-par players for the Asia Cup that cost green-shirts the tournament.

Talking to APP, Qadir while speaking about the national squad announced for the World Twenty20 said naming squads is a joke for the selection committee. “Selectors don’t have any vision in mind while they include or exclude players in the team,” he said.

He said firstly the selection committee should be held accountable for what they did to the team in the Asia Cup. “It is just because of the untalented and inexperienced players put by the selectors that cost Pakistan the Asia Cup,” he said.

He said if they were to call Ahmed Shahzad back in the World T20 squad then why they didn’t include him in the first place for the Asia Cup. “Including Khurram Manzoor in the Asia Cup and World T20 squad was a big mistake,” he said.

He said the PCB selection committee is just a dummy and all the favored treatment is done by the Chairman and other top officials. “The selectors are helpless against the Chairman and other top officials as they have to entertain those players in the squad whose names are sent by the high ups,” he said adding if I was the chief selector I would have entertained any Chairman or other officials requests.

Qadir said same was the case when Azhar Ali was named the ODI captain who came as a big surprise as he was not even in the squad. “Our selectors are committed to do blunders,” he said.

He also questioned the PCB of what input did Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja gave during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for which they were selected as ambassadors.

“What advise did they gave to the PCB Chairman from the PSL and in what way did it benefit for the team as Asia Cup was just after the PSL and the team performed poorly in the tournament,” he said.

Qadir also lashed out at the T20 Skipper who directly called on the Patron’s intervention to promote talent in the country.

Afridi, chose social networking website twitter to express his views on Sunday. He requested the PCB’s patron-in-chief to look into the barriers which are preventing talent from the grass root level to rise and prove their mark.

“In what capacity did Afridi called on the Patron directly without the consent of the Chairman. Has he seen his own low performance in the tournament (Asia Cup). Instead of taking the responsibility he is blaming others,” he said.
