KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Friday condemned attack by enraged protesters on Karachi and Lahore offices of Recorder House (Aaj TV), Aaj News reported.
He said attack on media was condemnable. “We believe in free media,” he said.
Many political, journalistic, intellectual and other groups have condemned the attack.
The attackers stormed the media house with stones and batons. The enraged protesters were reportedly rallying against execution of Mumtaz Qadri.
Sindh Interior Minister Sohail Siyal and Senator Shahid Syed also condemned the attack on Aaj news channel office.
Former interior minister Rehman Malik said attack on media was a very cowardice practice.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid condemning the attack said attack on any media house tantamounts to curbing freedom of expression.
He said that the provincial governments must take cognizance of the matter and ensure safety and security of media houses and workers.
Editors for Safety said no power could force media to cover their desired news. Strict action should be taken against violent acts.
