PCB Special Committee to recommend removal of selection committee

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Special Committee is likely to recommend the removal of selection committee saying their role has not been up to the mark.

The PCB Special Committee preliminary meeting was held in Lahore on Friday. The PCB’s Special Committee is headed by Shakil Sheikh while the members include Subhan Ahmad (Chief Operating Officer PCB), Iqbal Qasim, Younus Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Talking to APP, a top PCB official, on condition of anonymity, said PCB is planning to bring in some new faces in Pakistan cricket on the recommendation of its recently-constituted “Special Committee”.

He said the PCB Chairman is unhappy with chairman selection committee Haroon Rasheed and he wants to sack the selection committee. “Haroon had not done any homework on the players while naming them in the squads since he took over as PCB selection committee chairman,” he said.

He said it was the decision of Haroon to include Khurram Manzoor in the Asia Cup T20 and World T20 squad. “The PCB Chairman was not in favour of Khurram’s inclusion but Haroon put him in the squad,” he said. It may be mentioned that Pakistan performed poorly in the Asia Cup. Pakistan lost to India and Bangladesh and was unable to qualify for the final of the mega event.

The official said Haroon was so non-serious about his role as chief selector that he didn’t conduct meetings of the selection committee and used to finalise teams for series or tournaments on `WhatsApp'”. The official said the committee will be giving recommendations to the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan for the removal of coaches and T20 captain also.

He said the special committee will be calling in everyone who they think are responsible for the team’s debacle. “They will be questioned on what improvement they have affected since they took over their respective jobs,” he said.
