OIC calls for independent state of Palestine

JAKARTA: The fifth Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concluded on Monday with Muslim leaders strongly condemning Israeli violence and expressing firm support for an independent State of Palestine.

The Jakarta Declaration issued at the end of two-day Summit reiterated support for the Palestinian cause as the Muslim leaders from 49 countries including Pakistan, exhibited the spirit of unity and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

President Mamnoon Hussain represented Pakistan at the Summit.

The Declaration stressed for enhancing efforts by Muslim countries and the OIC for the just solution of Palestine issue and extended support for the social and religious rights of the Palestinian people.

The declaration called upon the international community for realizing the gravity of Palestine issue and work towards finding its solution for peace in the Middle East.

The Jakarta Declaration contained the concrete steps, to be pursued on the issue of Palestine that were discussed among the 605 delegates from 49 countries participating in the Summit.

It was also supported by a resolution having set of political calls from the member countries.
